Urban Hazard Awarness Resources
I believe that the most effective way to erradicate from the root the dramatic impact of natural and humand-caused hazards is to educate people about these risks. It is with this purpose that a series of resources will be developed and made availabe to anyone with the desire to educate himself about the hazards that surround him.

This manual will present a procedure by which any urban dweller will be able to identify the different urban hazards that could affect him. The hazards that will be covered in this publication will include environmental as well as structural issues.

This manual will be a tool for any urban dweller to enable him to identify the seismic soundness of the home he is occupying. A step-by-step approach will be used to guide the process of identifying the safety of his home in what concerns its performance under seismic loads. First, the seismicity of the site where the building is located.Then, a series of simple structural properties will be identified and their structural soundness compared to the minimum requirements for such a structure. Finally the an overall structural evaluation will be made.
